Hillwood House

This spectacular site on the banks of the East Tamar River in Northern Tasmania provided ample opportunity to maximise views, but also presented particular challenges, which informed the design from the outset.

The site comprised two separate titles, both quite compact and with the added complication of both containing tree lined crown land river frontage. It was a considerable challenge to design a building which was confined to a single title to allow the future development of the adjacent site. In addition to this the river and views were to the South West, so it was with careful consideration that the linear form of the house took shape, stepping down to utilise the natural gradient of the site.
